South West Highways
South West Highways are responsible for the well-kept appearance of the Devon road network and their fleet of 12 Spearhead TWIGA 555 and TWIGA 655T reach mowers are an essential part of that task. With a dedicated team to cover around 7,500 miles a year, their machines need to be able to operate on a daily basis without any major problem or breakdown.
The verge mowing operation takes places over an intensive seven month period and their choice of the 5.5m reach TWIGA 555 coupled with two telescopic 6.5m TWIGA 655T models offers the best versatility when verge mowing and hedge cutting on class A and B roads.
As well as the reach, these mowers needed to be reliable, well-built and have a simplistic yet effective control system. To achieve this South West Highways decided to incorporate the Propilot control system into their machines as this multifunctional control system can be specifically matched to their individual operators preferences and positioned anywhere in the cab to suit the user. Once the machines had been delivered Spearhead also provided driver training to ensure the operators got the most out of the new system.
The TWIGA 555 machines come standard with Spearhead’s latest product offering, the Project Black Flailhead; available in 1.2m or 1.6m cutting width options, 66hp hydraulic system, and four different types of flail to cover both hedge row maintenance and grass cutting.
